This section will consider the way meaning is constructed when we experience literary texts.
I will argue that we gain more from reading if we integrate awareness of our role as a co-creator of meaning.
Using Wayne Booth’s metaphor of “books as potential friends” we will consisder how we interact dynamically with a text often in conversation with others over time and how this perspective can inspire creativity, instead of treating literature as static, dead artifacts to dissect and compare.
